Team want2race had a strong entry of 5 cars of a total 50 on the combined GT5 and GRDC+ grid at this year’s Silverstone 500 event, supporting British GT. Team drivers Paul Oliphant, Michael Crees and Jack Oliphant were back to fight for more silverware.

GRDC+ qualifying was a straight in-house fight between Michael and Jack, with both drivers putting unbelievable laps over two seconds faster than their nearest rivals in class. Jack Oliphant scored his maiden Pole of the season, with a lap time of 2.35.895 closely followed by Crees on a 2.36.087. Paul Oliphant had his best qualifying session of the season so far in P6.

Jack took his qualifying confidence and pace into both Race 1 and 2, finishing in P3 and P2 respectively with some excellent race pace and craft in both outings, dicing with eventual winner Rob Keogh on numerous occasions. A spinning GT5 caused Jack to take to the grass in avoidance in Race 3 pushing him well down the pack.

Michael led Race 1 comfortably, until a battle with a slower GT5 car pushed him wide and into a spin, making it easy for Keogh in the end to take victory in the shortened race. Race 2 a mistake saw Michael drop back, but a gritty drive through the field saw him P4 at the flag. Race 3 was a more straight forward affair, with a P2 and completed the hat tick of fastest laps from the GRDC+ field.

Paul Oliphant’s pace round the Silverstone GP layout was not reflected in the results, with a P8 his highest points scoring finish from the weekend. Mechanical failure unfortunately put Paul out of Race 3.

Jack’s two fantastic podium finishes and gained valuable momentum from his dropped points at Snetterton last round. Michael leads the GRDC+ Championship as it heads to Europe next round at the exciting Zandvoort Park Circuit, Holland in July.
