Adrian Campbell-Smith has today confirmed his plans to graduate into the Protyre Motorsport Ginetta GT5 Challenge with want2race for the 2017 season. Trading his road legal Ginetta G40 Club Car for its pure racing sibling, Campbell-Smith is hoping the two years spent as part of the British GT support package will bolster his chances of expanding his trophy cabinet after being a podium regular during his Ginetta Racing Drivers Club and GRDC+ campaigns and taking third overall in GRDC+ for 2016.
Adrian Campbell-Smith, driver; “I am excited to remain part of the want2race stable and am looking forward to being reunited with my many friends in the Ginetta paddock. Stepping up to GT5, 2017 will be very much a learning year with a new car and four new (to me) circuits out of seven on the calendar. Nevertheless, I aim to be competitive in the GT5-Am class and look to make my shortage of trophy space more acute! ”
Ben Hyland, want2race team boss, said; “We are delighted to have Adrian return in 2017 racing for the team and making his debut in the highly competitive GT5 class. The step up in power and moving onto a slick tyre is something I know Adrian will greatly enjoy and revel in his new ‘challenge’. After the hugely successful 2016 campaign, Team W2R look to build on our experience gained in each category we go and race in, with the added excitement of watching Adrian and our other GT5 drivers taking part in some BTCC race weekends which are a great addition with live TV coverage and huge crowds.”
The Ginetta Racing Drivers Club Plus (GRDC+) is a natural progression for those drivers who have recently discarded their novice plates and are often graduates from our GRDC series, though not exclusively.
The Ginetta GT5 Challenge offers a unique opportunity to race in a single-make racing championship whilst still being a part of the prestigious British GT and Touring Car weekends. The Ginetta GT5 Challenge is suitable for all ages and levels of race experience and is widely known as being the breeding ground for future professional drivers.
Joining the British GT Championship at five meetings, with an additional two as part of the British Touring Car Championship support bill, this seven-weekend series is a popular entry-level championship for many aspiring GT racers.
Team want2race offer full support services, testing and car hire opportunities within GRDC+ and GT5, anyone interested in joining the team or testing a car should use the contact us page here.
