Michael Crees furthered his Ginetta GRDC+ championship lead with a prolific drive at his home circuit, with team-mate Jack Oliphant also on form scoring a major points haul for Team want2race at the penultimate race weekend of the season.
The opening round of the weekend saw the Broadstairs man Crees put in his best drive of the season so far, after starting P3 behind rivals Keogh and Ingram. The weather was a key factor with the race starting in dry and rain mid way through. Keogh and Crees were the class act of the field in these conditions with Crees the ultimate victor putting in an unbelievable move on the last corner of the last lap to secure the win.
Race 2 was another closely fought battle, with the usual trio of drivers Crees, Keogh and Ingram away from the main pack – which included Paul Oliphant having a sensational battle with around five other cars for 5th place. Crees finished a defensive drive to 2nd place, with Jack moving up from the back of the grid to 9th overall and Paul a brilliant 7th.
Reverse grid Race 3 always provokes action, and this was no different, with championship rivals Keogh and Crees placed 8th and 9th respectively from the start. Jack Oliphant gridded up P2 and was determined to get the result his pace deserved from the weekend. Graham Hill bend was where the Crees 100+ supporters and fan club had hearts in their mouths as they witnessed Michael being punted off wide with major damage to the front end and putting him well down the order in 14th place. Jack led for the opening lap and settled into a rhythm by lap 3 when the faster Keogh and Ingram were both past. It was Crees however who was the man on a mission, taking position after position and driving his way through the field to finish P5.
Paul Oliphant had another epic battle in the mid pack, with a P7 place and lap times to worry the top 5 and son Jack achieved his podium with a gallant 3rd place after all - to the elation of the ever hard working want2race team after another driver’s error nearly ended Jack's weekend prematurely.
The stage is set at Donington Park for the season Grand Finale, with Crees leading the championship by 28 points from Keogh and Ingram some 80 points behind.
