A combined grid of almost 50 cars saw the Ginetta GT5 and GRDC+ join forces for the one and only time this season as part of the Silverstone 500 British GT weekend on June 10/11.
GT5 AM class front runner Adrian Campbell-Smith was joined by guest driver Stuart Crees – replacing Mike Jarvis who had to miss the round at the last minute. Qualifying did not enable Adrian to unlock his true speed and potential, as traffic on his hot laps hindered overall pace before tyres dropped off at the end of the 20-minute session. P2 in class, and ahead of the majority of the field in P14 however, Adrian was in a confident mindset heading into Race 1. Stuart Crees had just 45 minutes seat time in practice, meaning each lap he drove thereon was a learning curve and made P3 in class even more of an outstanding achievement with the team knowing more pace was to come throughout the weekend.
Race 1 was eventful from the start, with incidents on most laps causing some confusion from the Officials with yellow flags and sector times. The race was drawn to an early close, with a strong drive by Adrian finishing P2 in class and challenging for top 10 overall. Stuart Crees drove a strong and brilliant debut GT5 race, coming home P3 in class.
Race 2 was moved back to the end of the day, making a tight timetable rather impossible to fulfil but with fire in his belly from Race 1, Adrian pushed from the off making a very good start and passing rival Evans for the GT5 Am Win and fastest lap of the race. Crees also had an outstanding race, with him now battling in the top 20 overall and finishing behind team mate Adrian for P2 on the podium.
A shortened Race 3 was a 3 lap dash, with Adrian once again the class of the AM field taking his second well deserved victory of the weekend, putting him right back in contention for the class Championship. Crees rounded off a great Silverstone debut weekend, with 3 podiums from 3 and finding nearly 2 seconds in the final race.
The GT5 grid returns on July 8/9 on the Historic Formula 1 venue of Zandvoort in Holland, where co-owner Mike Jarvis returns alongside Campbell-Smith as the pair aim for more success and silverware from their European adventure.
