The sunny sand dunes of Zandvoort Park Circuit played host to Rounds 12,13, 14 of the Ginetta GT5 Challenge and Rounds 10,11 and 12 of the GRDC+. Team W2R were out in force, with both Adrian Campbell-Smith and Mike Jarvis in GT5 and Michael Crees, Paul Oliphant and Jack Oliphant in GRDC+.
GT5 was a bumper grid of 23 cars with the weather adding to the drama before qualifying throwing up a tough decision for the teams whether to run wet or slick tyres. Adrian had a fantastic qulaifying session, seeing him well within the top 8 overall until the pack got an additional lap on a drying track so just missing out on class Pole by 4 tenths to rival Evans. Jarvis again qualified strongly, running P3 in class all session ahead of the remaining AM grid. The pair finished where they started in Race 1, with Adrian P2 and Mike P3 on the podium.
Race 2 was a different story, with Adrian pushing from the off, running top 8 pace all race and eventually finishing P12 overall with a class win and fastest lap. Mike joined his team-mate on the second step for a briallint P2 as the Dutch grid girls handed over the silverware and champagne. Race 3 Adrian was again the man to beat in class, with another win in the slightly reduced race due to an incident involving the Reflex car.
Two days of successful testing paid off in qualifying for Crees in GRDC+, with him putting his PCS sponsored car on Pole for Race 1 - a race he dominated from lights to flag and started the weekend with maximum points allocation. Jack Oliphant had less running in testing, so his 5th place finish was well deserved with Paul finishing P17 after being involved in some incidents from the 21 strong grid.
Epic battles can only be used to describe the driving in Races 2 and 3 of the weekend in GRDC+ with Crees, Keogh and Ingram (all past and present W2R racers) enjoying swapping paint, vinyl and silverware as the three all finished the weekend with a P1, P2 and P3. Jack climbed to P4 in Race 2 but an unfortunate mechanical issue put him out of Race 3. Paul's highlight was a Pole start in the reverse grid Race 3 and led for over a lap until entering the hairpin too hot from the lead saw the Cheshire driver enter the kitty litter.
The team leave Zandvoort in fine form, leading both GRDC+ and GT5 AM classes and looking forward to the next respective rounds at Brands Hatch GP on August 5/6th and Knockhill on August 12/13th.
