Jimmy Thomson, today announces he is to compete in the Ginetta G40 Cup championship with fellow Yorkshire-based W2R Motorsport.
Thomson, 28 from Ilkley, is climbing the motorsport ladder, graduating from his first season being looked after under the Ginetta Racing Drivers Club scheme, to competing in his first year of a bone-fide race championship – the G40 Cup.
With the backing of Guyson International from Skipton, the move to W2R Motorsport was an important decision for Thomson as he looks to continue his motorsport journey and passion further.
“The guys are W2R Motorsport are a great bunch, very professional and as a driver coming into the G40 Cup for the first time the support and development on offer for me and the car is second to none. Being from Yorkshire of course also helps!
Our sponsors Guyson International are looking forward to attending the racing and enjoying the hospitality on offer, and I’m excited to race on a packed grid at some of the best circuits in Europe.”
W2R Motorsport team boss, Ben Hyland, believes Jimmy has great potential to progress and succeed within the series.
“Jimmy impressed me towards the latter end of last season, with a ‘can do’ attitude towards his racing and his results and confidence with the car just got better and better. We have some positive changes to make to the car, and the driver development coaches are already preparing for getting him well up to speed before our first round in five weeks time.
Jimmy is a natural fit for W2R Motorsport, we welcome him to the team and look forward to helping Jimmy progress and achieve his goals this year and beyond.”
