A go-karting champion joins Team want2race for his car racing debut in 2017 participating in the Ginetta GRDC+. Michael Crees, from Broadstairs in Kent, has only been familiar with racing circuits for the previous four years but has already claimed top spot in the UK in the Sodi World Series beating off thousands of other drivers and racing for his country at the World Finals.
Crees joins the GRDC+ grid as it breaks away from the GT5 grid and forms its own uber-competitive one make series Championship – visiting the very best circuits such as Brands Hatch GP, Donington Park, Silverstone GP and Spa Francorchamps. Team want2race will run the car and support Michael throughout his first year of racing.
The thirty three year old racer and father of two is sponsored by Premier Contract Supplies, with aspirations to make the podium in his first season and looking to build on his experience in year two. Crees said; “I’m a happy go lucky guy who just loves racing, with some fantastic results recently against some of the best kart drivers in the World and coming second in the recent Henry Surtees Championship. Together with want2race, and PCS my sponsor, we are looking for a successful start to my motor racing career and believe the GRDC+ is a great stepping stone and platform to learn the ropes and gain more experience. I can’t wait to get on the grid and race!”
Coming through the want2race competition ranks, Crees made the top ten drivers across the UK once again, thoroughly impressing judges and competition organiser Ben Hyland, who said; “Michael shone at each stage and has improved each time we’re seen him on circuit, now he has the opportunity to get some crucial testing done in the car and I know we have a strong contender from the start. Michael’s race craft and determination to win is something you do not see very often, and we are looking forward to supporting him through his first proper season of racing”.
Supporting the car along with title sponsor PCS are Hansgrohe, Roca and Creesons, with a new race livery to be revealed by Team W2R in the coming weeks. Vince Caldicott from Premier Contract Supplies is keen to see Michael progress. Vince said;” It was always a dream of mine to race but I never got the opportunity. I am therefore so pleased that PCS has been able to give Michael this opportunity to realise his dream”.
You can follow the progress of Michael Crees on his own twitter page @Creesy77 or on the want2race team website and social channels. The Ginetta GRDC+ Championship starts at Oulton Park on April 15th alongside the British GT Championship.
