Rob Keogh Targets Ginetta G40 Cup Title Challenge With W2R Motorsport

Posted on Fri 1st Mar, 2019 in: Team News

2015 GRDC+ champion Rob Keogh is determined to taste championship glory again this season as he continues his successful partnership with W2R Motorsport in the Ginetta G40 Cup.

Initially entering motorsport as the 2012 want2race competition winner, Keogh has developed into one of the most experienced Ginetta G40 drivers around with a spell in the GT5 Challenge alongside his successful run in the GRDC+, which was renamed to the G40 Cup last year.

Keogh has spent the last five seasons accruing an impressive haul of silverware and he heads into 2019 as by far the most successful driver in G40 Cup history to date, with no less than 17 race victories and 42 podium finishes to his name.

In addition to his 2015 title success, Keogh finished as championship runner-up in 2017 and fifth overall last year, when some bad luck cost him a title challenge but he still starred with nine podium finishes including a victory at Snetterton.

Rob Keogh: “I’m really looking forward to the 2019 season. As Steve McQueen said, ‘Racing is life, anything before or after is just waiting,’ and this winter has meant too much of that. I go racing with the attitude that I want to enjoy it … only the bit that I find enjoyable is the winning!

“Together with W2R Motorsport and key sponsors SubFero and Stance, we are looking forward to getting back in the Ginetta G40 and onto some podiums, hopefully with as much enjoyment and close, clean competition as possible.

“The want2race competition is how I got into racing and I’m very happy to be able to continue in 2019 with W2R Motorsport. Ben [Hyland] and his team prepare and support the cars with fastidious attention to detail, but there is also a great camaraderie and atmosphere there.”

Keogh will spearhead W2R Motorsport’s challenge for a third drivers’ title in the G40 Cup, with the Yorkshire based outfit being the most decorated team in the championship with a sensational tally of 30 race victories and 94 podium finishes in the series to date.

Ben Hyland: “Rob is a tremendous driver and without a doubt one to watch this season. A former champion in the series, he lost out on a good stab at the title in 2018 through extreme bad luck and he’s a man on a mission to get back to the top step this year.

“Since winning the want2race competition in 2012, Rob has become a seasoned Ginetta G40 racer and his pace is clear to see. We have an enhanced testing programme planned with him, which I’m sure will unlock his experience and potential.

“Having raced against him on track and watched him from the sidelines, Rob’s tenacity on track and his natural racecraft is some of the best I’ve seen in G40 racing. He’s a huge part of the W2R family now, we really enjoy racing with him and wish him all the best for the season ahead.”

W2R Motorsport have opportunities available to race with the team in both the Ginetta G40 Cup and the Ginetta Racing Drivers Club this season. Interested parties should contact Ben using our contact page or call 07779305353.
