Nestled in the heart of Cheshire, Oulton Park is easy to access. There might be a few windy roads as you get closer to the track, both otherwise, its well served by cities and motorways.
By road, the track is best accessed from the A54 or the A49. From the north, take junction 19 off the M6 and follow the A556 through Northwich towards Chester. If you are coming from the south, leave the M6 at junction 18 and follow the A54.
If you plan to travel to the circuit by air, you can make the most of two international airports nearby. The nearest are Liverpool John Lennon Airport and Manchester Airport which are both less than a one hour drive from the track. Further south you will find Birmingham Airport which is around 90 minutes away.
If trains are more your thing then you can make the most of regular train services to Crewe and Chester which work on the mainline from London.
Since its beginnings in 1950, Oulton Park has been one of the most popular tracks in England. Sat in the village of Little Budworth, just outside Tarporley in Cheshire, it’s easy to see why it is held in such high regard.
The track can trace its history back to the manor house which stood on the grounds called Oulton Hall. That was the ancestral home of the Egerton family who were made Lords of the Manor by Henry VII. Sadly, the original manor was destroyed by fire in 1715 and a new one was created with formal parkland laid around it.
During WWII the area was taken over by the military, but is was completely bombed out all the was left was rubble and existing roads ways. Later, that would inspire the Mid-Cheshire Moto Club to open back up as a race circuit and thus, Oulton Park was born.
Plenty of work has happened since then and the early 2000’s saw a change of ownership and ultimately new investment into the circuit. Motorsports fans have flocked there in their thousands ever since and the British Touring Car event is one of best attended, while the Gold Cup has been restored to prominence with the track now regarded as the Goodwood Revival of the North.
Don’t just take our word for it being a brilliant venue to drive around though, come and experience it all for yourself with want2race.
